improved pacific rim

(this is what ive been calling it in my head for a while. im not actually claiming this is better than pacrim even though it 100% is)

after the last update i actually stopped captioning for a while but i have renewed the joy i get from this project and im back on the sigma grindset (currently on line 157)

2/24/2024 (yes its the same day but it has been a couple minutes and 39 lines of captioning since the last update)

okay ive gotten over my instant reaction and i realized this is probably for the best b/c i know for a fact i wouldve gotten lazy and stuck with the wrong times on the first captions. also doing this helped me develop a style of captioning im happy with and fits my needs and the first captions were very inconsistent so itll be nice to have everything be more homogenous. blessing in disguise. is what i keep repeating to myself to preserve my sanity

i just. i. i just. accidentally closed the window holding over 20 minutes of subtitles without saving. i guess that makes my decision for me on whether or not i retype with more accurate time. i put so much fucking time into those subtitles and just ended it with 2 clicks. i dont even know what to feel right now. i apparently got way more emotionally invested in this than i thought. im going to start saving more frequently from here on out.

ive captioned over 20 minutes of video by estimating the millisecond each phrase was said

i just now discovered that i couldve viewed the exact millisecond each phrase was said but just CLICKING ON THE GODDAMN TIMESTAMP. i am now in the process of debating how much of this i am actually going to go back and rewrite to its proper timing

this seems weird but its actually quite simple to explain

this is one of those things that started out simple and quickly grew to be a whole thing. initially i just edited together the lighter bits of pacific rim because sometimes i want to watch the comedic relief without watching the whole movie. this aspect of the project is complete. i then decided to add a subtitle track so i could still make sense of it when it was hard to hear. this was much more tedious than i had expected. i have spent what i believe to be over 2 hours subtitling 7 minutes.

the accurate subtitle track is the main meat and potatoes of the project. once thats complete i plan to add a subtitle track to share with my friends that just has my dumb comments sprinkled in throughout the movie and then burn it onto a dvd.
